Homebuilder Customer Reviews

No one knows more about a homebuilder's quality and service than the builder's customers.

Since 1984, Eliant has been independently evaluating the performance of homebuilders across the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East:

  • We ask recent homebuyers to evaluate their builder's purchase process.
  • Then, we ask homeowners to evaluate their builder's quality and service (1) after the first 5-months in the home, and (2) again at the end of the first year.

In "Homebuilder Customer Reviews", we present the ratings and comments collected from new-home buyers at these three points in time.

Eliant verifies that only evaluations completed by actual customers are included in this "Homebuilder Customer Reviews" site. No other evaluations - whether collected by the builder or those appearing on other public sites - are included here. All customer comments are included verbatim, no editing is permitted.

Lots of miscommunications between sales and our agent.

The quality and workmanship leaves much to be desired. Issues were pointed out and never addressed. Basically, told that this is how its going to be. Issues not addressed: Solar glare from window next door, onto siding. Wanted a solar shade installed on the window next door to protect my siding. was told that the siding would not melt, but I only have a warranty for one year. Trim and walls were not the best, most of the issues should have been caught by the builder / site manager. The process for pre-inspection was awful. The site manager would not give us the tape rolls to mark issues. We had to wait on him to do it and then enter it into his computer. The process took so long, we forgot what we had found, by the time he was ready to put tape on it. When we asked why he would not let us do it ourselves, then he can do his documentation, he stated he was afraid we would use the wrong color tape for the wrong thing. Come on, there are only two colors blue and green, Paint - Blue, Repair - green, not too hard. Was told numerous times, the house would not be perfect. The yard is very bumpy. Contractors came back to do work while the yard was sloppy wet, on the new sod, causing it to be very bumpy with holes. They even moved the trees, causing more yard damage. The yard looks awful. Asked for the plumbing clean out to be cut level with yard so we can mow, they just put a big concrete ring around it. sits 5" out of the ground. It's not a hard fix. We love the layout of our new home, but worry about the quality and the limited warranty. Century Homes gave us a warranty sheet stating ten years or the minimum required by law. You mean to tell me you don't trust your work for ten years. The builder stated that the warranty is only good for 4-6 years. The closing was a nightmare, no one seemed to be on the same page. They thought we would have to close on another date due to paperwork issues caused by Century. Then when it was finally finished, they didn't have our keys. We had to wait for someone to bring the keys to the closing office. On closing day, all we received was the closing legal paperwork, no paperwork about our home. Do we need to register any warranties on the AC or other new items to get the full warranty? I have built many homes in my 52 years, and this was the worst experience yet. When we moved in, we found spots that were repaired and never repainted, loud HVAC that rattled so loud, it can be heard inside, leaking plumbing, cabinets that hit each other. Had to put rubber bumpers everywhere in the house to keep doors and cabinets from hitting walls, appliances or each other. Just seems like all the fine details were overlooked. After two days in the house we noticed that the Aux Heat was running constantly. The installer had the smart thermostat set, so the heat pump does not run below 50 degrees, so basically the house was only being heated by the heat strips. Once I adjusted the settings, the system did great. Sales [name removed] was very nice, Builder - Site Manager was not so friendly or pleasant. Plumber who came to fix leak was very nice. Emailed CEO about issues, no reply.

It was okay. It was a typical experience with any new construction. Century did not stand out above any other builder I've had in the past.

Information and directions changed frequently. Definitive answers were difficult to acquire at times. On the positive side, we love our new home as far as the design and features.

When I did my walk-through in my house, nothing that we marked was completed before I moved in unfortunately this was supposed to be a wonderful experience. It was terrible for me. Everything has separated my countertops. The house was filthy wasn’t clean on the outside at all. Still have pop nails painting was horrible red mud stain still on my garage door. Nothing was completed stains from nails in my shower and bathtub just very disappointed. I definitely would definitely not recommend anyone buying a home through these builders.

I did not like the "Buy Now" button on the website. I most liked my experiences with the people I worked with.

We liked how easy the process was. We did not like working with the preferred lender to receive the closing incentive but thankfully [name removed] was amazing to work with and understood our issues and helped us move forward while we worked with a different lender

Communication has been great! Maybe a little too much - it’s hard to keep up with the messages. [name removed] has been great to work with. He is customer focused, knowledgeable, and responds quickly. He was easy to talk to regarding questions about our home.
