Homebuilder Customer Reviews

No one knows more about a homebuilder's quality and service than the builder's customers.

Since 1984, Eliant has been independently evaluating the performance of homebuilders across the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East:

  • We ask recent homebuyers to evaluate their builder's purchase process.
  • Then, we ask homeowners to evaluate their builder's quality and service (1) after the first 5-months in the home, and (2) again at the end of the first year.

In "Homebuilder Customer Reviews", we present the ratings and comments collected from new-home buyers at these three points in time.

Eliant verifies that only evaluations completed by actual customers are included in this "Homebuilder Customer Reviews" site. No other evaluations - whether collected by the builder or those appearing on other public sites - are included here. All customer comments are included verbatim, no editing is permitted.

Dislike—-the attorneys’ last minute requirement. We should have been told sooner.

The Broker and Lender Process. [name removed] the brokers manager was a bully. [name removed] the broker was so nice and sweet but not knowledgeable. I had to consistently follow-up and manage the process due to inconsistency information and or no communication. It wasn’t a pleasant process overall.

I put a full price offer on a 12 day closing with a contingency on the sale of my house, which was almost complete at that point. A few days prior to closing the purchasers of my house need more information for their lender which created the need to push closing by. ONE DAY century communities slapped me with a $7500 penalty, which is outrageous, it felt spiteful and vindictive. I have not heard of such a penalty. Especially on such a quick closing they should have been appreciative. I have to walk over and hand a check in before I could go to closing ruins the entire experience for me, which was difficult to start with. The majority of this stemmed from [name removed]. [name removed], who works at the model Home is professional and kind, but her boss is not she was terrible to my agent as well. Everybody I’ve spoken to is baffled that you would get slapped with that type of penalty, which would usually be reserved for people who are dragging their feet or not closing and unappropriate matter of time. I felt like the community should’ve been very happy that during this very slow sale on a new community. They had a person buying a home in 12 days. The fact that it dragged to 13 made them feel the need to hit me with a penalty over something that was out of my control it felt like I was working against a century instead of with them during the majority of the process if I could’ve not closed on this house, I would have walked away, but I could not afford to lose my earnest money as well as breach of contract and the fact that when I have asked to get a number or contact information for someone higher than [name removed], they refuse to give it to me and say the decision was made at regional level as if somehow that means I’m going to stop fighting this. Also, when I spoke to someone in real estate law, they said the first thing they would want to know is do you do this to everyone or was I singled out? And why? Sadly, I was beyond excited about moving into this beautiful community, into this beautiful house, and all of that was ruined before I ever walked in the front door.

What I like most about the purchase of our home was meeting the building manager [name removed]. We moved to Georgia from Ohio, so we did not have the opportunity to start from the beginning on the building process, when [name removed] came over and introduce himself during an uninspected visit, he made me and my wife feel very comfortable on the building process. [name removed] provided his personal number and advised us if anything we find that was not right to our let him know. After we closed on our home, we did find some minor things along with keys not fitting the door and the hot water not getting warm enough, we called [name removed] he came over to address the issues and the contractors came out the same day. Thank you, [name removed] for making our purchase experience a positive one with century communities!!

The quality of the build was good. Contracting with the agent and financing with the in-house lender was a disorganized and unpleasant process.

First, unlike other communities where the earnest money deposit is typically 1%, I was required to put down $7,500. A few days after making the earnest money payment, I was informed that the price of the property had changed, and that the corporate office would not recognize that I had already paid earnest money based on the previous amount. My agent tried to advocate on my behalf but was unsuccessful, and I eventually had to agree to the updated price. I felt cornered by the situation. Subsequently, my loan officer, [name removed], sent me documents reflecting the old property price. I had to be the one to inform him that the price had changed. He then advised me to proceed with signing the documents, assuring me that an addendum could be added later. Overall, the entire process was extremely stressful and frustrating. If I had not already vacated my apartment, I would have considered withdrawing from the deal entirely. [name removed] appeared uncertain about the figures throughout the process, and whenever I sought clarification, he became defensive. This created significant anxiety for me, as I was never confident about the accuracy of the information I was receiving. I kept signing documents with the wrong numbers and was assured that it will fixed. My closing documents didn’t come through until a day before or early hours of the morning of my closing. This process was a nightmare I must say and will never recommend century or their lenders to anyone at this point. Though [name removed] the manager onsite connected us to [name removed] the supervisor of [name removed], who was helpful and more reassuring. However, my overall experience was far from pleasant. Every interaction I had with [name removed] left me uneasy and confused about the numbers and the progress of the loan process.

I am writing to formally express my deep concern and frustration regarding the condition in which my new home was delivered. During the initial walk-through, we identified a serious ant infestation in the living room area. At that time, your team committed to resolving the issue before closing. Since it appeared to have been addressed, we proceeded to sign and accept the home. However, after moving in on Friday, October 3rd, we discovered that the house is completely infested with ants. They are coming out from corners, unsealed construction gaps, and even from underneath the carpet and kitchen cabinets. This clearly shows that the treatment or attention provided was insufficient and ineffective. As a customer, I feel extremely disappointed and frustrated. The excitement of moving into a new home has turned into stress and discomfort due to ants crawling all over the place. This situation is unacceptable for a newly delivered property and reflects a serious lack of quality control and follow-up from the builder. Additionally, I would like to formally document another major issue: The model we purchased includes an additional side window in the second-floor bathroom, which is clearly shown on the purchase floor plan and on the Century Communities website. However, this window was not built. When I raised the concern, I was told “the plan shows it this way,” which is not accurate, as the official documents and marketing materials clearly include this window. This is a contractual and product discrepancy that must be addressed. Therefore, I kindly request an immediate review and permanent resolution to these issues: A professional and comprehensive pest treatment, including sealing all construction gaps, repairing any structural defects, and verifying that the infestation is fully resolved. A review of the missing window issue, along with an appropriate construction fix or compensation, consistent with the design that was sold and advertised. I would appreciate a formal and prompt response, as well as an urgent technical visit to address these matters, which are significantly affecting our quality of life and trust in your company. Thank you for your attention and understanding. I look forward to a quick resolution.
