Homebuilder Customer Reviews

No one knows more about a homebuilder's quality and service than the builder's customers.

Since 1984, Eliant has been independently evaluating the performance of homebuilders across the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East:...read more

  • We ask recent homebuyers to evaluate their builder's purchase process.
  • Then, we ask homeowners to evaluate their builder's quality and service (1) after the first 5-months in the home, and (2) again at the end of the first year.

In "Homebuilder Customer Reviews", we present the ratings and comments collected from new-home buyers at these three points in time.

Eliant verifies that only evaluations completed by actual customers are included in this "Homebuilder Customer Reviews" site. Sloppy paint/trim and plumbing work. Doors without weather seals. Windows not hung correctly, difficult to lock. Fridge with dents and dings.

the lack of communication. when questions were asked they wouldn't be answered. The lack of marketing material explaining how the house was going to be built and the finishes. Actual photos of the building. [name removed] having a team of people to talk to about the process

The are many issues with my home. They were still working on the home the day of closing. They promised if I went ahead with closing (not postpone) they would fix everything I had pointed out to them. That did NOT happen !! We have three exterior doors none of which shut correctly. One of the exterior door seal/threshold came completely out of the floor within the first week. The screws were stripped off. The house had a drain line plugged up and it flooded one end of the house about a week before we moved in. They had to drill through the concrete in the downstairs bedroom to remove a cap from the line pressure test. Guess they forgot to remove the cap before pouring the concrete on the floor. Cutting through the concrete made a huge mess at that end of the house. They half assed cleaned it up. Then a week after we moved in the toilet they removed to run the camera down to search for the first backed up water line issue started leaking. This ruined the nearby cabinet with water damage. It took them two tries to fix the toilet and after 8 weeks the cabinet has still not been repaired / replaced. There are several places they missed with paint. Areas the size of a folded dollar bill that were just missed with paint. The mud guys did an awesome job on the drywall in some areas and other areas it looks like a kid did it. Several walls are out of square to the point my 70 year old half blind mother noticed it. I assume framing squares are not allowed on the job site. They put 4 tears in or floor moving in the stove and refrigerator. I thought they were going to replace the flooring but they just pieced in small sections. Who wants a brand new home with patches all over their floor ? ? The refrigerator had a dent in the door and we are still waiting on getting a new door (2 months). However, the refrigerator leaks water from the freezer down to the refrigerated area. The water issue seems to be getting worse. The floors already creak and squeak like a 50 year old home. I assume they didn't use liquid nail on the floor joists which would prevent this. They were supposed to seed or sod the yard. However, they used 1/4 the seed needed to do the job right. So now I have 20 % grass and 80 % weeds. They left a huge dip in the ground on one side of the house which holds 4" of water rather nicely. The overall attention to detail was not a strong point for this builder. I see other homes next to me where the siding is already sagging. So either it was not installed properly or it's very cheap siding. I get the feeling they throw these homes together just as fast as they can so they can move on to the next one. The thing that worries me most is if they did a sub par job on the things I can see ...how bad are they things they could hide.

Signed contract and a week before closing century said I wasn't able to obtain a loan and canceled. I had to waste money to hire an attorney to get my contract reinstated.

The whole timeframe was absolutely tedious. I signed papers in September 2020 and finally was able to move into my house on June 30, 2021. I have had several things that are not up to my expectations. First night we use the upstairs bathroom at least through the garage ceiling so I had water all in my garage. I had carpet that was not tech down correctly so The gentleman came back to fix it. And put in the wrong yarn carpet so it looks like I have two different pieces of carpet in my upstairs when all of the rooms should be identical. My switch plates are crooked. The downstairs flooring is very poor. My chairs and anything cuts into the linoleum every time I move or sit in a piece of furniture downstairs. I have ants in my house galore. After moving in on June 30 I am just now on August 10 getting my yard work done as well as our other neighbors around me.There are several of us on E. South East St. who are very unsatisfied with century complete and the quality of the homes. My house is totally not worth $157,000 I paid for it.

The curb to my house was there before they built home. The curb is so big that it is damaging cars and I can not park in my driveway. I have tried so hard negotiating with century complete since I have moved in. I can not park in my driveway due to I have a car and it’s tearing my car up and has scrapped everyone’s car that tries to pull in no matter if they pull in at an angle. I had to schedule an appointment with the city to come out and they said they would pay half to fix it. My half would be $746 I have given the builder the email from the city but I am not getting any help with this. The builder manager was very sick with covid for a period and was not able to respond and that is understandable but now I would like someone to help me. I can not afford to pay this . I am a single mom trying to get two kids through college. I feel like centuary should fix it or pay half for the city to do it. I paid all this money and can not even park in my own driveway. I feel like since papers have been signed they will no longer help me. When I moved in the filter was not in my furnace. I had to run all over town on July 4 th trying to fine one I could cut to put in it until Ithe furnace company could be reached. My dishwasher leaked the first time I turned it on and had to arrange someone to fix that. My garage door did not work properly when I first moved in and had to arrange someone to look at that also.

Contract was corrupt, I had a purchase agreement in September 2020 for 124k and in December 2020 was told that was the wrong price and I could "re-buy" the home for 40k more. This company is dishonest and does not hold to agreements. I would rather cut off a finger rather than work with you again. You had my family between a rock and a hard place and, being active duty military, we were forced to continue due to timing. Everyone I know will be told how bad this company is and to never do business with you.

We are still waiting on our landscaping to be done. I’m not super happy about our yard full of rocks. And it’s not super leveled out either. But other than that, everything has been great!

My salesperson gave me bad information from the get-go. The homeless supposed to be ready in mid April and it was not ready until May 24th causing me to live in a hotel for over a month. The rep was let go prior to closing on the house. The house was supposed to be $186900 but when it was listed it was $192900. The sales rep from the get-go told us that they were working on getting the price back to what we were positioned originally. When we were reassigned a new rep they looked into it and found that nothing had ever been done around the price. I would like to give century complete a higher rating but unfortunately the sales rep left us less than satisfied.

Still not done. Takes a while to get anything done. Those who have come to fix the issues have been very nice. Yard is a muddy mess.
