Homebuilder Customer Reviews

No one knows more about a homebuilder's quality and service than the builder's customers.

Since 1984, Eliant has been independently evaluating the performance of homebuilders across the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East:

  • We ask recent homebuyers to evaluate their builder's purchase process.
  • Then, we ask homeowners to evaluate their builder's quality and service (1) after the first 5-months in the home, and (2) again at the end of the first year.

In "Homebuilder Customer Reviews", we present the ratings and comments collected from new-home buyers at these three points in time.

Eliant verifies that only evaluations completed by actual customers are included in this "Homebuilder Customer Reviews" site. No other evaluations - whether collected by the builder or those appearing on other public sites - are included here. All customer comments are included verbatim, no editing is permitted.

I like that's it's over and we can be more stable. I dislike the lack of price transparency and communication turnaround time I also did not like that our main POC was a sales agent Customers should be able to contact a customer satisfaction rep at all times not just a sales agent for assistance

Century Homes Review While our experience with certain individuals at Century Homes was positive, our overall experience with the company was disappointing and not one I would recommend to others. First, I want to commend two people who stood out: [name removed], the construction manager, was phenomenal from start to finish. He went above and beyond, took on responsibilities outside his role when others fell short, and truly cared about the quality of our home and our satisfaction. [name removed], our realtor, was also efficient, responsive, and helpful throughout the buying process. Both deserve recognition and compensation for the excellent service they provided—especially given the shortcomings of Century Homes’ corporate operations. Unfortunately, our interactions with Century Homes headquarters and their processes left us frustrated and dissatisfied. Several issues stand out: • Inconsistent Incentives – My sister closed on a Century home in December and received all appliances plus a washer/dryer set. We did not receive the same incentive, despite paying a $4,000 earnest money deposit. Competing builders, such as ASB, offered better incentives, more flexibility, and a higher level of service, as we saw firsthand when my in-laws purchased from them just down the road. • Lack of Flexibility for Paid Upgrades – We were willing to pay for certain changes (gloss paint, hardwood floors instead of carpet, a walk-in shower downstairs for our elderly grandmother, and an extended back patio), but all were declined. These were reasonable requests, at our expense, and in some cases related to accessibility needs. • Poor Communication and Staffing Issues – We never heard from the assigned warranty representative, only to learn later that he had been terminated. [name removed] graciously stepped in to handle warranty-related issues, but this created an unfair burden on him and highlighted poor internal communication. • Closing Date Mishandling – At the time we placed our deposit, we were given a specific closing date, with a possible extension to September if needed. Without our agreement, the date was changed, which cost us a financial benefit from another company covering our closing costs. When we questioned it, Century Homes threatened to keep our earnest money, charge an additional $4,500, and sell the home to another buyer within 24 hours if we didn’t accept their date—despite the change not being our fault. • Minimal Customer Service Touches – Unlike other builders, Century did not offer small touches that improve the homeowner experience, such as a 30-day post-move-in touch-up, professional blind installation, or a more thoughtful cable/internet setup. Even small exterior details, like a second garage light for symmetry or better lighting in the master bedroom, were overlooked. These are inexpensive improvements that would greatly enhance the product. • Title Company Frustrations – The title company used was difficult to work with and added to the stress of the process. On closing day, no one from Century Homes was present—only our team and a notary—making it feel impersonal and unprofessional. Overall, the finished product is decent but could be much better with attention to detail and a stronger focus on customer satisfaction. The corporate side of Century Homes showed little flexibility, lacked empathy, and provided a poor overall buying experience. If not for [name removed] and [name removed], our opinion of this process would be far worse. While I appreciate the efforts of those two individuals, I cannot recommend Century Homes as a company. Other builders in the area—such as ASB or KGF—offer better quality, better service, more flexibility, and a more positive overall experience. By far [name removed] and [name removed] deserve some major recognition, award, or additional bonuses because they were the only positive experience and most amazing part to the whole purchase! [name removed] was our favorite but he was also more of a face we saw than anyone else throughout the process! Just am so disappointed that our first home purchasing experience was horrible and detours us from wanting to buy again for sure. Wish y’all could have added the extra touch with the 30 day post purchase walkthrough for pain or dings, or gloss paint to prevent that as scuffs would be wipeable (there’s a saved expense), or added porch or concrete patio, or the washer and dryer to rectify this experience. To buy a $300k home an be embarrassed on scuffs and have to spend money to repaint is disappointing. Just wish I could say I’d recommend y’all, but the only people I’ll recommend is [name removed] and [name removed] because they gave your company a good experience and face but your customer experience really sucks can’t say that enough. Great job [name removed] and [name removed] and we really enjoyed working with you two. Wish we could have paid y’all for the product cause y’all worked hard and deserve the money or a reward! Keep up the great work you two your both amazing! Don’t ever change! If y’all ever leave century let us know cause we will follow you and recommend y’all and your work to anyone!

Century rushed my process and tried to close way before it was possible, based on a closing date for previous purchasers that fell through. My lender had to jump through hoops because Century was rushing the whole process.

So far we haven’t come across anything we’ve disliked too much. Not having window screens was a negative but it was explained on cost saving which helps in the long run for us.

The only issue was that on the day of closing, there was mud on the carpet going up the stairs. [name removed] was able to take care of it by the end of the day. Would recommend that the carpet protector remain on the carpet until closing.
