Homebuilder Customer Reviews

No one knows more about a homebuilder's quality and service than the builder's customers.

Since 1984, Eliant has been independently evaluating the performance of homebuilders across the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East:

  • We ask recent homebuyers to evaluate their builder's purchase process.
  • Then, we ask homeowners to evaluate their builder's quality and service (1) after the first 5-months in the home, and (2) again at the end of the first year.

In "Homebuilder Customer Reviews", we present the ratings and comments collected from new-home buyers at these three points in time.

Eliant verifies that only evaluations completed by actual customers are included in this "Homebuilder Customer Reviews" site. No other evaluations - whether collected by the builder or those appearing on other public sites - are included here. All customer comments are included verbatim, no editing is permitted.

1. Main office lady did not put our name on the list at first which caused us to wait 1 month for no reason. 2. Replacement of her due to her maternity leave, he was trying but doesn't seem to have all the information that we needed. While he was working with this company, he gave us weekly updates. At one point, we had gotten no updates for 2 weeks or so. Therefore we called him and he told us he didn't work here anymore. Well, either on his end or the company didn't contact us properly. 3. Trash: those sub-contractors spilling liquid, throwing trashes, and laying out random tools all over the places on the construction site. I'm pretty sure it's the construction manager's job to maintain the cleanliness of the site. 4. House with multiple defects: The floor right next to the island in the kitchen area is not even out. It is actually depressed and once I pointed out before closing, a guy other than [name removed] was saying it is normal. Obviously, it is not normal. Either the plywood piece underneath the floor is rotten due to rainwater (I know this because I saw it was soaked wet after rainfall in May) or builder just decided to use damaged plywood. The exterior and interior walls were not painted evenly. Some area was painted thin. The siding underneath the kitchen slide door was not fixed. Some metal fixtures for the upstairs carpet were found. There is way more than just listing every single thing. These are small but these details make the house marketable. 5. Seller's Market: I know by now it is a seller's market. However, there is also something called quality control. I bought this house because I loved the model house and, obviously, this house is not well-framed/built properly as I expected. It is very disappointing to see how builders around this area build like this. I planned to buy a couple more houses around this area for investment purposes but I will not buy any houses built by this builder. There is no such thing like American Made quality anymore.

Overall experience was long but worth it. Every one we dealt with was awesome. I’d say one thing to improve on is better communication and follow through for minor things like options for flooring.

This home buying experience was the experience we have had. We have purchased and sold several homes over the years, but we have never had any issues. I can't begin to tell you what this process has done to my family. The miscommunications, deceit, disrespect, and failures on the part of century communities. If I would have done my research, we would have run! I would not recommend this builder. The only thing we experienced was heartbreak and headaches, we have spent countless hours regretting our decision.

Everything got delayed multiple times, if a realistic timeline was to close end of July I would've rather been told that than the middle of May initially and it get pushed back three separate times to the end of July. Another huge dislike was the communication with the office employees and the builders. They aren't tracking the same information and when I got them to respond it was rarely what I asked for, it was usually "let me ask the builder" or something like that and I wouldn't hear anything for a few days or I'd be given information about a house down the street from mine. Lastly, I understand that humans aren't perfect but when you're paying as much as we pay to live in this community you expect a certain level of attention to detail. The amount of paint issues throughout my house was ridiculous and not all of them identified at the initial walk through were even fixed. From not being enough paint and seeing the texture on the wall to having blue paint on my concrete in front of my house to having white paint on my maroon door or having maroon paint on my white trim surrounding my door to having panels of my house not even painted at all. Once identified at the initial walk through, the builder said he would have his painter come back and repaint some of the areas, which he did, but when there are still issues I expect for the painter to come and fix them not for the builder to tell me "I already had him come out twice I'm not going to have him come out again." Well, if it was done properly the first time we wouldn't have any issues. [name removed] only paint but there are just so many blemishes/issues around the house or things like trim not lining up all the way or countertops being loose around the house. I really hope that warranty claims can fix the issues we're having because if they don't I will definitely steer everyone away from this community and builder. A brand new house shouldn't have this many issues with no accountability when it comes to fixing them.

Being told our house would be done in March and ended up being done in June was a bit of a bummer. The lot we chose didn't have an option for a basement or to be anything other than a Silverthorne model but we decided to go with it since it was supposed to be done by March. Knowing what I know now I probably would have chose a fresh lot that I had more options from the start. Also I was never notified of the delays that ended up happening until I reached out myself. We did get a new superintendent toward the end that did a lot better keeping us in the loop. Last annoyance was not having our laundry room cabinets installed at closing or our front door along with some trim not painted because a rain gutter was installed wrong during painting and was later moved. We have been reaching out periodically to find out when they will be resolved but nothing so far and we've been in the house for 3 weeks. Time to reach out for an update again.

Our build was to be completed in April, it was not ready until mid-June. We asked about changing certain things before the build process had gotten to a point beyond it being possible and were told we couldn't, even if we offered to pay the difference. It's quite evident that, despite the late completion, several areas of construction were rushed. We couldn't be present in-person for our walkthrough, and are finding several things not properly sealed, crooked/off-center, just overall evidence of a lack of pride and commitment to quality. We drove hundreds of miles to move here out of state with a set closing date that had to be pushed back another day due to construction not being complete prior to close. This also negatively affected our inspection days prior. There has been no acknowledgment of any items in the inspection report submitted. We were asked on the way to our house to turn around and surrender the keys because lender financing hadn't gone through even though our personal closing costs had. We have only been in the home for about a week, and already have a running list of items we will need to submit warranty requests for (or at least bring to the attn of the builder). When, due to the builder not having completed construction on time, we had to stay an unplanned night at a hotel we asked the builder to compensate for this as it was their fault for not having kept the agreed upon timeline. We were treated as if we were requesting a free upgrade in the home, and that it was absurd to ask this.

[name removed] was not good to work with. Terrible communication and made some very rude comments to our agent about our contract. Unprofessional at best is the common theme from neighbors. I cannot out this any nicer which is unfortunate. The constant change of employees on the construction side (sup/manager) made for inconsistent communication and more often than not left us in a constant state of unknown. Several things from blue tape were clearly not address (paint, caulk) but it got to the point where we didn't say anything as to not delay process. Everything takes FOREVER!!!! We have been in exactly one month, on day two the garbage disposal broke (loud and smoke coming from motor), placed a work order and we still have not heard anything. If this is the response to something SO INCREDIBLY LITTLE I cannot even begin to imagine what a burst pipe would look it. We still have not heard anything in regards to the broken cabinets, window, or a timeline for any grading/certifying of any yards, or front landscaping. Mind you, we cannot meet HOA guidelines until this is accomplished. I would love to have a grass yard for my daughter to play in. Oh, this is of course after all the garbage, nails, screws, staples, bolts, lumber, and giant cement blocks are removed. Over promising and severely under delivering. Especially when it comes to the contract and having "mistakes" "typos." I would expect a follow up to this as I certainly am not the only person with the above issues, but instead the only one to voice it.

Everything was perfectly fine the only thing I wish I would have gotten was the incentives you guys give to people that use your preferred lender. I did tried going with your preferred lender and complete the application process through y but unfortunately they denied me. Every other builder will still give you the incentive since I did tried my best doing your lender but that’s about everything

My questions about the new home have always been answered in a timely manner by the sales representative or the construction manager.

The only thing we disliked was we didn't go with the preferred lender and almost wasn't able to get the house. Our lender told us to do a few things at the last second that we could have done months ago. Besides that the experience has been great. The builders are fantastic and the foreman is open and always willing to discuss the house.
