No one knows more about a homebuilder's quality and service than the builder's customers.

Since 1984, Eliant has been independently evaluating the performance of homebuilders across the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East:

  • We ask recent homebuyers to evaluate their builder's purchase process.
  • Then, we ask homeowners to evaluate their builder's quality and service (1) after the first 5-months in the home, and (2) again at the end of the first year.

In "Homebuilder Customer Reviews", we present the ratings and comments collected from new-home buyers at these three points in time.

I liked the price of the home, even though ours was priced significantly above the others in the community. The communication with [name removed] and [name removed] was great! My husband built a relationship with [name removed], the builder, at the site by visiting often. Our home closed earlier than expected. The items we didn’t like were that the paint scuffs very easily, we were not able to pick anything as far as color schemes go, and the colors we originally were told were not what we ended up with. Our concrete was cracked and still needs fixed. The grass/sod/tree were brown, but we have been in somewhat of a drought in our area. We ended up taking down the tree. Overall though, we are happy with our experience.

I liked mostly everything except little things like no toile tissue holder, no bathroom towels holder, and no island in my house. Also I wish they would’ve included a garbage disposal. Other than that, no other complaints.

There was nothing that I disliked about the process except the house did not come with a refrigerator but that was no deal breaker. We did purchase one. I liked how fast the process was and how smoothly everything was done. I was informed in great detail about the process and what to expect. It was great to have a closing date determined after only having been under contract for a few days. You guys were quick to submit paperwork and were easy to contact for any questions. The contractors were very polite and professional. They worked with us on the walk-through and did not seem annoyed or bothered by any work we requested to be done or fixed prior to us closing (mostly areas that needed paint touch ups). They honored everything we requested as far as paint touch ups or minor repairs that needed to be done by the date we closed on the house. The contractor even gave us a little extra paint for the interior to use as needed and a piece of carpet to use for moving in (sliding items across the floor on the carpet so we do not scratch the floors). The contractors we met with that did our walk throughs were [name removed] and [name removed] I believe his name is. They were both very helpful and I give them both ten stars!!

The paint job is awful. I have paint on my plates. My stairs is not safe. My door has a hole in it. My wall was curved into. Apparently when I had my home orientation things that was suppose to be fixed was not fixed. Stuff that addressed on the day of closing was not fixed.

We were given the wrong interior features list and told it would include lvp floors and a single basin sink. We questioned it immediately and were strung along for answers. The rep finally owned up to the mistake but didn’t correct it. It was several thousands of dollars in difference and should have been honored since it was his mistake, not ours. He continued to lie about the sink and never came clean until I called him out on it the day of closing. Up until that final phone call, he had said a sink was happening. Very dishonest and lacking integrity.

The really only "complaint" I would say, is that the land that I have was not completely cleared off. I have possibly 15 feet of dirt in the back yard and the rest are trees. I would need to have someone come in and clear the trees as well as the land and then level everything.

Builder was great. Everything was easy. Application process and smooth and convenient. Deposits and closing were quick and easy as well. Only dislikes were the communication early on. Things like the fact spectrum wasn’t going to be available for up to 2 years was pretty big. As well as informing us about the delays that could be possible due to electric. Once that was cleared up the remaining communication was A+. A little more communication during the Mortgage process would hurt. I understand that it’s kind of a waiting game but just be like “hey it’s going to be very little communication if everything’s going well” because we were very worried something might go wrong. But I won’t hold that against anyone because it was a good thing we weren’t hearing anything but just kept us on edge a bit.

Communication. It was good at first but as we got closer to closing it quickly faded. We had to find out closing was being pushed back a day before after we had been prying for information on what is going on. This seriously hindered us since we had already requested time off from work and had moving arrangements set up.

Everything was easy. Skip and [name removed] were great to work with. Every little detail was fixed. Every suggestion was taken into consideration, when asking about power, water, and general information about the home

Love: Online access to do the initial payments. Love: The Builder offered mortgage and deal (we got a better deal than someone we knew who bought a house with a VA loan- not same builder). Love: the process Love: the contractor has been awesome. Love: The staff at the office has been awesome. Love: Easy work for me and my realtor.

A couple of things I did not like was that when I hade questions about the process it was hard to get a response and also after I moved in the house has alot of small details that eventually will have to be fix. This includes stains of dirt on the windows out side that for me is hard to clean them, paint issues around the house, poblems with the vinyl on the floor in one of the bathrooms, it has a bubble underneath. This poblems are the reason I gave a 7 in my satisfaction.
