Homebuilder Customer Reviews

No one knows more about a homebuilder's quality and service than the builder's customers.

Since 1984, Eliant has been independently evaluating the performance of homebuilders across the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East:

  • We ask recent homebuyers to evaluate their builder's purchase process.
  • Then, we ask homeowners to evaluate their builder's quality and service (1) after the first 5-months in the home, and (2) again at the end of the first year.

In "Homebuilder Customer Reviews", we present the ratings and comments collected from new-home buyers at these three points in time.

Eliant verifies that only evaluations completed by actual customers are included in this "Homebuilder Customer Reviews" site. No other evaluations - whether collected by the builder or those appearing on other public sites - are included here. All customer comments are included verbatim, no editing is permitted.

We were very upset to find out that we couldn't do anything about the yard after closing. It looked bad even right after it was installed. But after walking the yard and trying to mow we discovered just how terrible it was. There are gaps around every piece of sod, some large enough for my wife to step in, easily but enough to drop a mower wheel into. None of the yards in the neighborhood look nice. And we have seen that several people work hard trying to make it look nice. If made a bad first impression on us when we toured, our minds were changed by the architecture.

For the most part communication was great. I felt we could reach someone for answers most of the time

I really do not have any complaints. Your crews were very attentive - however on a few occasions some pinch list items took several times to get correct.

[name removed] the community sales manager was very nice and he tried to be as responsive as much as he could even though there were some things he didn't know, he would still try to find out and relay the information to us. We did have a few hiccups throughout the building process but I do appreciate [name removed] for having patience with us. The design appointment when [name removed] was still there ran very smoothly and all of our questions were answered. When we had to deal with [name removed], she was not there the day of the appointment, another person helped us (she was very nice). [name removed] contacted us with little to no idea and understanding of what we wanted and our situation. She didn't want to honor the original design and price we had, and told us we'd have to be charge for a fan that we initially weren't. She couldn't follow and didn't understand how we wanted the locations of the ceiling fan and chandelier in the house, even until the end of the design process. She then somehow dug out the old concrete extension quote and tried to apply it to the new lot. She needs to be trained on customer service and especially learn to learn how to interact with people. We had 2 project managers for the house, [name removed] (who got moved to another community) and [name removed]. [name removed] was nice and straight forward when interacting with us in person, however when we needed to contact him, he was never available and wouldn't respond to phone calls or text messages; it seemed that any concern we had or anything that wasn't correct was just pushed to a side with him. Sometimes even [name removed] had a hard time to get in contact with him to get answers for us. [name removed] is also a very nice and straight forward person. He gets the work done and he was available when we try to contact him and ask questions, but he always seems very busy so it does take a while to hear back from him. I do appreciate Mr. [name removed] very much, we had issues with the driveway and also around closing time. When no one wanted to hear out our problem, he did the best he could to help us out and compromise. I don't think anyone else in the company was willing to do that for us. After closing we had some issues with gas leak, it took a few times to contact [name removed] but he was able to get GSE out to fix it. We also are currently having an AC issue still waiting on that to be resolved. We still have a few outstanding issues that are waiting to be fix. They may seem very minor to your company, but for us, it is a hassle to have to constantly ask for updates and even nagging just to get it done. We are waiting for window screens to be installed, I've asked a few times over the past week since they've arrived and they still are not yet. We've asked for a small window to be replaced at the final walk through, only last week did we get a phone call for them to come out in middle of March to get installed. I've also been asking for a transition piece to be glued down since the final walk through and a small hole to be patched and that still has not been addressed yet. When we had our final walk through, it was with [name removed]. He was telling us how one of his bosses with telling him about building a perfect home, well I think the thing is that there is no perfect home because there is human error; but that human error can be minimized with attention to detail and a better quality control process. There is no point to just talk and speak about how something is not possible if you aren't willing to notice and put the effort into fixing it. I do see that [name removed] has grown a lot since our old house in The Sanctuary at Juban Crossing. We actually only decided to build in [name removed] [name removed] because we rememebered not only the quality of the house but also the wonderful customer service and response. Now the same people may not be with the company anymore and [name removed] has grown a lot. But with this growth there is also a wider/larger margin of error caused by the customer service aspect for us this time around building in [name removed] [name removed]. We truly loved the house, the location and knowing how the end product should be and that was the only reason why we stuck and followed through with the building process, as far as majority of the interactions with some of the employees went, it was disappointing.

Dislike: the quality of the garage door, the garage door being painted leads to the door never being able to seal, painting it leads to the trim warping and it’s very aggravating to have a garage door that doesn’t seal. For the 30 day walk through I had to reach out 2 weeks after to get the work done, instead of [name removed] taking care of it. I did not like working with [name removed] from GMFS, she’s unprofessional at times and sends way to many emojis in emails, making me feel like not a customer. Likes: The design appointment was great, [name removed] is amazing to work with and is so patient. [name removed] was great to work with, always quick to answer & solve our problems.

We enjoyed working with [name removed] and [name removed]. They were very dependable and helpful. What we disliked was the the confusion about the street name which we noticed when we came for the final walk through. It is [name removed] [name removed] Avenue and not what we were told for several months. This created some problems for us when giving our new address to family and delivery companies. It was also inconvenient when the closing was postponed from a Friday to a Monday just an hour before it was originally scheduled.

The overall contract process was smooth and straightforward. I appreciate [name removed]’s dedication to finalizing the sale, as he even prepared the paperwork while on vacation. However, there were challenges after the contract was signed. The home remained on the market for a few months, and some issues remained unresolved, such as a missing over-[name removed] cabinet in the master bathroom and a malfunctioning heater. During the home inspection and orientation, these concerns were brought to the project manager’s attention, but they were not addressed until the day of closing. Many of the items noted during the orientation were not corrected in time for the final walkthrough and were only fixed on closing day. The most significant issue was the missing blinds, which were included in the contract before signing but were not purchased by the company until after closing. This was particularly frustrating because I chose to pay a premium to ensure the blinds were installed before moving in, but that did not happen. Even more disappointing was that I began checking with [name removed] three weeks before closing—and continued following up weekly—to confirm the blinds had been ordered, yet they were still not installed or even purchased in time.
