Homebuilder Customer Reviews

No one knows more about a homebuilder's quality and service than the builder's customers.

Since 1984, Eliant has been independently evaluating the performance of homebuilders across the U.S., Canada, and the Middle East:

  • We ask recent homebuyers to evaluate their builder's purchase process.
  • Then, we ask homeowners to evaluate their builder's quality and service (1) after the first 5-months in the home, and (2) again at the end of the first year.

In "Homebuilder Customer Reviews", we present the ratings and comments collected from new-home buyers at these three points in time.

Eliant verifies that only evaluations completed by actual customers are included in this "Homebuilder Customer Reviews" site. No other evaluations - whether collected by the builder or those appearing on other public sites - are included here. All customer comments are included verbatim, no editing is permitted.

Our experience with Grand Home was positive. We had been waiting for 2 years to get a lot and we loved Grand Home’s design. I greatly appreciated the professionalism and responsiveness of the team throughout the process—from signing the contract to move-in. The clarity of communication and timely updates made the process much smoother and less stressful. What we liked most was how Ms. [name removed] helped us tremendously, patiently answering all our questions after our sales representative, Ms. [name removed], left the company. [name removed] came to our rescue every single time—from the Design Center to the final handover. Another key person, Mr. [name removed], the builder, promptly addressed any concerns we raised and fixed them right away. One area for improvement would be at the Design Center. Our design coordinator seemed inexperienced and sometimes rushed us through choices, making it challenging to select what we truly wanted. We were also not satisfied with the kitchen quartz we upgraded for $8,000, as the installed quality was the lowest available in that category. We recommend reviewing this with your vendor to ensure buyers receive the upgraded product as promised. We also greatly appreciate our closing coordinator, Ms. [name removed], for extending the closing date by one month when we faced challenges with our previous lender. Overall, we are very satisfied with our purchase and would recommend Grand Home to others looking for a well-managed home buying experience.

[name removed] was an amazing agent who tirelessly searched for multiple options to ensure we found the home we wanted. Throughout the entire process, from the initial consultation to the final closing, [name removed] has been consistently reliable and prompt in addressing any issues that arose. Their dedication and expertise have made this move incredibly smooth and hassle-free. I highly recommend Grand Homes to anyone looking for a trustworthy and reliable real estate agent.

[name removed] was a great help. He guided us through every step of construction. He paid attention to our questions and concerns and addressed them appropriately. He maintained closed-loop communication by providing updates periodically. Even after we have moved, he is responsive to our questions or concerns.

I have an amazing experience when it comes to customer service ([name removed]) and home builder( [name removed]). The one thing that me and my wife didn’t like is the base standard design selection. You must add more selection for base standard countertops, tiles and carpets. Cheaper small homes in the area have better base standards. We are disappointed on the selection you have at the design center.

Most of our experience was positive, from working with [name removed], our sales representative, to our designer [name removed], and our builder [name removed]. One area we were disappointed with was Grand Homes changing the design of the breakfast area after our meeting with the designer and then expecting us to catch this change during the final review before construction. As a result, the chandelier is not centered in the breakfast area. [name removed] has been helpful in trying to figure out possible solutions; however, there is still a possibility that we may need to cover some of the costs ourselves, which has been somewhat disappointing given the overall investment with Grand Homes.

The Design Center was my only concern. Products offered for the type and price of the home were not aligned and I’ll have to truly upgrade. [name removed] oversaw my construction through move in and was phenomenal!

Lack of design choices or being provided alternate options. From past experiences with other builders, lighting and blinds were provided options through a builders relationship with a company (which offered discounts due to relationship). Offer options which we were told Grand Homes used to but no longer does (such as pull out shelves for kitchen cabinets).

[name removed] the contractor made it easy for me to work thru the issues I faced. Only problem, with overall was once I made a decision it was very difficult going back as they said for everything was done with city approval. Thngs like 5.1" sound on the living room which I wanted to do it after the design center appointment, they refused doing that change. Also, the credit given to me was taken back when it took time for me to close due to market being slow in delaying my home to sell before I buy. It took a month extra for me to close. The credit of 6000$ was taken back. Overall, we love our new home.

My purchase experience started positively, particularly during the early contract and design phases. However, there were significant issues that affected my trust in the process. I initially agreed to a home price of 777k plus 20k in design selections with my sales consultant, [name removed]. The following day I was informed that the sales team had been using an outdated price sheet for over a month, something even the sales supervisor, [name removed], did not flag, and the price was revised to 793k. Although I proceeded with the purchase because I had already invested considerable time and effort in design and structural planning, the situation felt misleading and not aligned with ethical business practices. The build and move-in phases were also far more challenging than expected. There were multiple quality issues, miscommunications, and situations where commitments were not followed through without repeated escalation. I often felt I had to personally monitor details rather than trusting the process, which created unnecessary stress during what should have been an exciting milestone. My interactions with [name removed] were especially difficult. His communication style came across as dismissive and unprofessional, and at times I felt disrespected during walkthroughs and issue discussions. This added emotional stress to an already challenging experience. In contrast, [name removed] has been outstanding to work with. He is professional, responsive, respectful, and consistently solution-oriented. He restored confidence in the process when issues arose, and I genuinely appreciated his support and commitment to doing the right thing. If my project had been managed by [name removed] from the beginning, I believe the experience would have been significantly smoother. Despite the challenges, I would consider purchasing from Grand Homes again if I were assured of working with a builder like [name removed], whose professionalism and accountability reflect the standard I would expect from the brand.

From the beginning, we’re misinformed/ promised certain items that we requested to have it in the house but end up not. When we noticed it was not there and informed, the answered it was not in the contract. Honestly, we expressed what we want from the beginning and expected to be in there. When we move in, the washer was broke, the electrical is not working, door knobs falling apart and many mores….

WE had a few hiccups of items that did not end up on final contract, that caused extra expenses and stress, but most items [name removed] and [name removed] did their best to accommodate and fix. My biggest complaint is the quality of the materials and workmanship of cabinetry, which is an extremely large cost to ever try to remove and rebuild. These cabinets are the cheapest material of any home I have built, including when I built my first for only 145k back in early 2003. For 1.4 million almost, I would have expected the best custom cabinetry so far, so that is a huge disappointment, as I think they look terrible. No laminate covering on any inside of the cabinetry, so there is MDF roughly done, and when I try to wipe it, it leaves white fuzzy all over from any material I try to use. They are terrible, and many spots where they put the nails all the way through the wood and just left it. The staining has streaks in some areas, the sealant isn't done well on some, and some areas aren't even fully stained. They really are a very terrible quality, and if I were an owner or operating partner etc, I would absolutely fire them. This is the only embarrassment in this home, and it really is something I have to decide if I try to one day have fixed. There are some doors that have like a bubbled up line, it is very odd, total split down the side where the double ovens are. [name removed] and [name removed] have been great and I hope [name removed] continues that, so far [name removed] seems like he will be a good help for warranty issues.

[name removed] smith did a great job keeping us up to date. Disliked that the model home is not what you get when you add in features from the model. Wood framing around living room and kitchen is not as expected. The interior wood is rough and splinters when you dust whereas the model has nice smooth wood that is easily dusted. Few other things as well such as fireplace mantle height.

The honest truth…what I loved and valued most about this process is the fact [name removed], [name removed], and [name removed] have felt like family. They have answered every question and tackled every obstacle to help take care of us.
